Welcome to the Family YMCA at Tarrytown

We build strong kids, strong families and strong communities!  You have taken the first step to becoming part of something big – the YMCA Movement. The YMCA is a charitable nonprofit under Section 501 (c) 3 of the US Tax Code. Through more than 2200 operating units, the YMCA serves over 16 million men, women and children, making it the largest community service organization in the United States.  Worldwide, the YMCA is in more than 130 countries and serves in excess of 30 million people. Our more than 150 years have given rise to services ranging from childcare, fitness and aquatic programs to schools, medical and agricultural support for developing nations.  The Family YMCA at Tarrytown is a local charity that receives no funding from the YMCA of the USA.

Mission Statement
The Family YMCA at Tarrytown is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving a diverse community and building spirit, mind, and body through a unique combination of childcare, fitness, performing arts and adult male residential programs.  We offer all programming and services regardless of an individual's ability to pay.

Financial Aid for membership and program fees is available for free and reduced lunch recipients, and for other income qualified individuals.  click here for financial aid application

Putting our Mission to Work
The Family YMCA at Tarrytown, N.Y., recently celebrated 105 years of service to our community, which includes towns along the Hudson River from Hastings-on-Hudson north to Peekskill.  There are few institutions that have successfully served a community for over 100 years.  We have succeeded by adapting to changes in society, while maintaining our core beliefs in body, mind and spirit.

As you may know, the YMCA is a charitable organization.  We are also an open and inclusive organization:  YMCAs are for people of all faiths, races, ages, abilities and incomes.  We provide scholarships to large numbers of local children and their families, to single mothers, and an ever increasing number of local seniors.   Last year, our YMCA awarded scholarships to over 350 individuals, who without our support would have been unable to take advantage of our programs and activities.  These programs and activities include childcare, aquatics, Y Dance, Y Theatre, pottery/ceramics, drawing and painting, sports, recreation programs, after school programs in multiple school districts, and summer day camps.

Our programs truly make a difference in our community.  Without the Family YMCA at Tarrytown, disabled children and adults in our area would not have an aquatic therapy, physical education and recreation program.  Hundreds of families would be at a loss without our quality, affordable after school program and enriched summer camp.  Senior Citizens would be more isolated and have less opportunity to participate in supervised, age-appropriate physical fitness programs, including use of our fitness center and swimming pool.  Forty-eight men could possibly still be homeless without our intervention and residential program.

We believe our charitable efforts and the many services we provide to the underserved in our community are unmatched.  We offer childcare services for children aged three months through preschool.  In 2004 we introduced a nursery school.  We currently run before and/or after school programs in Briarcliff Manor, Elmsford, Irvington, Ossining and the Tarrytown School Districts.  It is our intention to secure funding to open a full day child care facility.

Prior to his YMCA experience, Gerry spent five years working for the AlliedSignal/Honeywell Employee Health & Fitness Center where he was trained in Total Quality Leadership and the Six Sigma Administrative Process.  He eventually became the program’s manager.  During this time the program was recognized nationally by the Association for Worksite Health Promotion, won several Fitness Management Magazine NOVA 7 awards and received a 4.9/5.0 Customer Satisfaction Rating within AlliedSignal/Honeywell’s Business Services division.

Gerry is a graduate from Rutgers University with a baccalaureate of science degree in Exercise Science and holds a Graduate Certificate from Purchase College in Fundraising and Board Development.  In his college years, he spent time as a student athletic trainer for the university and was a cardiac rehabilitation intern for Hackensack University Medical Center.  His other professional experience includes teaching as an Adjunct Professor for County College of Morris and being a Strength and Conditioning Coach for Morristown Beard High School.  Gerry has also coached youth basketball for 10 years and is a certified varsity official through the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.  Furthermore, he is a certified karate instructor and holds a second-degree black belt in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate.
